The Cocoon Nebula in Cygnus- IC 5146
This gorgeous little 'tropical fish' is at once an emission, reflection and absorption nebula. Physically reminiscent of The Trifid, it is a stellar nursery. I am grateful to my friend and IP4AP client Dr. David Yaney for allowing me to process this terrific data for us. This photograph appeared in the September, 2008 Sky & Telescope Magazine Gallery.
