The Great Orion Nebula and The Running Man- M42
What can one say about this breathtaking sight? Certainly one of the heavens' most exceptional objects, it is easily observed naked-eye in the sword of Orion's belt. M42, the larger emission region is a stellar nursery where new suns are being birthed. The smaller reflection nebula (left) is NGC1973-75-77 and commonly called The Running Man or Ghost Nebula. Do you see his outstretched arms and long stride in the magenta center of the blue area? Click the image for a larger version or return to the Gallery
