The Rosette NGC 2237-39

Located in Monoceros, this emission nebula is among the most beautiful of its class. A staggering 50 light years across, it's a nursery to NGC 2244, the 'new' (1 million year old) cluster of stars at center.  Note the veins of dark matter called Bok globules, which give the rose its petals. As a musician and guitarist, it has special meaning to me. Decoration of the soundhole stemming from the medieval lute is also called a rosette.
