Billions and Billions.com/Sculptor Galaxy
The Sculptor Galaxy NGC 253
is the brightest of the 'Sculptor Group' around the south galactic pole. The Sculptor Group is the nearest neighbor of our own 'Local Group' of galaxies. NGC 253 was discovered by Caroline Herschel on September 23, 1783 with 'an excellent small Newtonian Sweeper' of 675 mm focal length. Thanks to my good friend David Plesko of Cherry Mountain Observatory for allowing me to process his fine data for us. Click for a larger version or return to the Gallery
