The Veil- Western Loop
The (Bridal) Veil is a sprawling nebular complex in Cygnus, the result of a supernova explosion of modern times (5-10,000 years ago). There are two major components or loops, this being the dimmer NGC 6960, popularly called The Witch's Broom which appears above right. Part of Pickering's Triangle is below. The Veil proper was discovered in 1784 by the great William Herschel. Again, we see OIII mingled with the red and pink filaments of Hydrogen and Nitrogen. The Eastern Loop (Cirrus/Network) NGC 6992/6995 is here. You've probably noticed my penchant for finding shapes and faces within objects. Do you see the little troll face at bottom right?
