The Cigar M82 in Ursa Major                                                                                                        

was discovered by Bode, and is M81's partner at a distance of eleven million light years from us. Called an irregular galaxy, the core shows heavy starburst and dark lanes, first observed by Lord Rosse. These are a result of a close encounter with M81. In infrared light and X-Ray, it's the brightest galaxy in the sky.
