Billions and Billions.com/M95 and M96
M95 and 96 in Leo were discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. They are part of the Leo 1 Group consisting of several other galaxies. M96 at upper left is an Sa-type spiral, while M95 at lower right is an (SB(r)b) barred-ring galaxy. The bar can be clearly seen running left to right. Note too, the blue arms indicating star-forming regions. Its core has three distinct hot spots, just visible in the larger View. Return to the Gallery
