NGC 6951 in Cepheus
This lovely Face-On Seyfert Type II galaxy is classified as an SABbc (Mixed Barred/Non-barred Spiral w/ Mixed Inner Ring, S-shaped, Luminosity Class I-II). Its distance is estimated to be 75,000,000 light years and the galaxy itself- 85,000 light years in diameter. Supernova 1999el was discovered here on October 20th, 1999 by the Beijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO). These images were acquired by 'mein gut freund' Martin Winder of the Picard Observatory in Linz, Austria. The ghostlike 'clouds' in the field are Galactic Cirrus within our own Milky Way galaxy.
