The Bear Claw Nebula
Sh2-200 in Cassiopeia
was cataloged by Stewart Sharpless as early as 1959 as an emission nebula.
Not until 1983 was it understood to be a planetary nebula based on the observations of Hartl, Dengl, and Weinberger.
Named HDW2 for them, it is also designated LBN 674 and PK138+04.1, with the popular name, Bear Claw.
This image is a narrowband Hydrogen-alpha and Oxygen III composition with natural colored, RGB stars.
Many thanks to Ron Brecher for capturing and preprocessing the data.
