The Carina Nebula
NGC 3372 in Carina
is a huge, area of bright and dark nebulosity, located in the Carina–Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way. Also known as the Eta Carinae Nebula (Grand Nebula/Great Nebula), the complex is approximately 8,500 light-years from Earth. Within its boundaries are numerous super-hot O-type and Wolf–Rayet stars, as well as the Keyhole Nebula at 3 o'clock, near center. NGC 3372 was discovered by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1752 from the Cape of Good Hope. Many thanks to Chile's Observatorio El Sauce for this narrowband SHO (Sulfur II - Hydrogen alpha - Oxygen III) data, acquired by Peter Jenkins via Telescope Live.
