The Dolphin Head Nebula
Sh2-308
also designated LBN 1052 (Lynd's Bright Nebula), is an OIII (doubly ionized oxygen) and Hydrogen-alpha region located near ‘The Dog Star’ Sirius in Canis Major. The nebula was formed about 70,000 years ago by the super-hot Wolf–Rayet star, EZ Canis Majoris, which is in its pre-supernova phase. Stellar winds, blowing at 4,000,000 mph form the bubble-shaped nebula as they sweep up slower moving material from an earlier phase of the star's evolution. Sh2-308 is 4,530 light-years from Earth and 60 light-years wide. This wonderful data was captured by Telescope Live.
