The Hickson 91 Compact Galaxy Group
NGC 7214 in Picis Austrinus
and its 'sisters' are a gravitationally bound, compact group of galaxies, designated Hickson 91 by Canadian astronomer, Paul Hickson. NGC 7214 at center, is a highly distorted SB(s)bc-type spiral galaxy, located 320,000,000 light years from us. The pronounced tidal streams (100,000 ly long!) indicate an interaction with the much smaller PGC 68155. The face-on classic spiral immediately below-left of the main pair, is PGC 68160. IC 5168 appears at
1 o'clock, with PGC 68164 below at 8 o'clock. Several other smaller members appear in this interesting FOV.
Many thanks go out to my collaborator and friend, Mike Selby, who acquired and calibrated this fine data,
and who helped realize the core detail, which I failed to do.
