The Mice Galaxies
NGC 4676a and 4676b in Coma Berenices
are two, gravitationally bound spiral galaxies located 300,000,000 light-years away.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1785, Arp 242 (as it also referred to as) is in the process of colliding and merging.
The popular name, The Mice, refers to the long tails of stars and gas produced by the tidal action between them.
