The Monkey Head Nebula
NGC 2174 in Orion
also designated Sh 2-252 (Sharpless catalog), is an emission nebula, surrounding the open star cluster, NGC 2175.
Known as the Monkey Head, the nebula's discovery is credited to Édouard Stephan,
with Giovanni Batista Hodierna credited with discovering the open cluster some two hundred years earlier.
This version uses the Hubble Palette of Sulfur II (R), Hydrogen alpha (G), and Oxygen III (B) narrowband data.
