NGC 1365 Galaxy
NGC 1365 in Fornax
is the dominant member of the Fornax Galaxy Cluster 60,000,000 light-years from Earth. At 200,000 light-years across, this Type 2 Seyfert galaxy is one of the largest galaxies known, and one of my very favorites. At the tips of its dominant central bar are intense star forming regions, which continue along the spiral arms. At the galaxy's ovular core hides a supermassive black hole. The data was acquired at SSRO in 2009.
