NGC 2613 Galaxy
NGC 2613 in Pyxis
is an extremely massive, barred spiral galaxy, which contains a deeply embedded active nucleus that probably hosts a supermassive black hole. 2613 is approximately 66,000,000 light-years from Earth. Despite much variation in color, its spiral structure is incredibly detailed! Among the many small galaxies which appear in the background, most prominent is PGC 23977 near the bright blue star at 9 o'clock. This data from 2014 is from the SSRO archive.
