NGC 3132 Nebula
Southern Ring Nebula
also known as the Eight-Burst Nebula or Caldwell 74 is a bright and extensively studied planetary nebula in the constellation Vela.
NGC 3132 was one of five objects observed by the James Webb Space Telescope, and was part of the first official release of images on July 12, 2022.
The central star of the planetary nebula, which is ~2,000 light-years distance from Earth, is a white dwarf with a temperature of 100,000 K.
That dying star has blown off its outer layers and is causing the nebula to fluoresce with ultraviolet radiation.
Thanks to the STScI for supplying the data, and to friend, Nico Carver for explaining how to get it!
