NGC 5054 Galaxy
NGC 5054 in Virgo
is a somewhat irregular Herschel 400 spiral galaxy in the constellation Virgo. The irregular morphology of the galaxy hints at a possible interaction sometime in the past. At approx. 82,000,000 million light years distance, virtually nothing is written about this 'little' beauty! I believe that the edge-on at 1 o'clock, just off 5054's upper arm, is MCG-3-34-40. Many thanks go out to my collaborator and friend, Mike Selby, who acquired and calibrated this fine data.
I dedicate this photograph to my dear friend, Leejay Rudenjak, whom I had the pleasure of knowing since high school, and who left this world in May, 2021. A brilliant and talented creative, Lee loved my astro-images and often took the time to ponder them. He will be greatly missed.
If such a thing exists, may he go among the imperishable stars- love you Lee!
