NGC 578 Galaxy
NGC 578 in Cetus
is a Hubble-type SBc barred spiral galaxy, approximately 72,000,000 light-years away from the Milky Way.
With a diameter of about 100,000 light-years, it was discovered by John Herschel on November 11, 1835.
An unusual feature in the image is the galaxy PGC 133775, which appears as though it is embedded within 578,
though it is likely much further away than NGC 578.
Many thanks go out to my collaborator and friend, Mike Selby, who acquired and calibrated this fine data.
