NGC 7129 Nebula
NGC 7129
is a reflection nebula located 3,300 light years away in the constellation Cepheus. A young open cluster is responsible for illuminating the surrounding reflection nebula. The nebula is rosebud-shaped, the young stars having blown a large bubble in the molecular cloud that surrounded them at birth.
The pink color come from glowing dust grains on the surface of the bubble being heated by the intense light from the young stars within.
The compact, deep red crescent shapes are Herbig-Haro objects, their shape and color characteristic of glowing hydrogen gas shocked by jets streaming away from newborn stars. This image is a collaboration between myself (post-processing), Paul Gardner (preprocessing), and David Siminoff (Siminoff Observatory).
