Sh2-301 Nebula
Gum 5/LBN 1044 in Canis Major
is a beautiful emission nebula near Sirius, the Dog Star.
Discovered by Colin Gum in the 1950s, the entire nebula is energized by two hot and massive stars–
LSS 212 and 207 have carved out giant cavities, creating a Superbubble effect, accelerated by supernovae explosions.
Bok globules and dark lanes slice through the nebula's core as new stars are being birthed.
Many thanks to Telescope Live, who acquired this fine data from Chile's Atacama Desert.
